With an average of 23 games remaining in this year’s TNM Super League, three teams have emerged as title contenders for the gong.

The 16-team League is led by Malawi’s top four teams, Nyasa Big Bullets, Silver Strikers, BeForward Wanderers and Civil Sporting Club FC, respectively.

As it stands this year; Bullets, Silver and Wanderers are favourites for Championship.

However, Bullets are leading the chart with 52 points in 22 games, seconded by Silver Strikers with 47 points in 24 matches played, and Wanderers are third with 45 points in 22 games.

Wanderers are the defending champions of the league after winning it with 69 points, with Bullets finishing second with 67 points.

The last time Bullets won the League was in 2015 under Coach Mabvuto Lungu, with 66 points, seconded by Malawi Armed Force College (MAFCO) with 50 points.

This is the 5th year since Silver Strikers won the gong. They won it with 53 points, and were seconded by Moyale Barracks with a 3-point difference. The previous year campaign [2012] was so dramatic, as Silver Strikers won it with goal difference against Bullets, and only 6 goals separated the teams.

This year, the league is mathematically open to all teams, and a drop of points for one of the contenders will slowly result into surrendering of the league to others.

Meanwhile, the bottom 3 consists of Dwangwa United, MAFCO FC and Nchalo United, respectively. Nchalo and MAFCO are top casualties for relegation.
