Previously run by the Central Region Committee, the Lilongwe District Women’s Football Association will this weekend have a running debut of the presidential Cup which will run for three days.

Six teams will compete in the tournament, and six games will be played over the weekend which will decide the finalists.

The teams are grouped into two, the first group consists of Chilinde FC, Bunda FC as well as Kauma FC and their games will be played on Saturday 8 December, 2018. In the other group Functured FC, Hungry Lions and Play Football Malawi will battle it out to find their finalist as well and their games will be played on Sunday, 9 December, 2018.

In an interview with Malawi Sports, Lilongwe District Women’s League Chair, Linda Kasenda, says this year’s competition has seen so many positive developments.

“This is our first Cup as Lilongwe District; in the previous competitions it’s the Regional Committee which was running the women football in the district because since we had no District Committee.

“Another thing is that for the first time Bunda has had a team for women’s football, we take it as positive development to the development of women football and it shows people are following our football,” she explained.

The winners of the final game which will be played next week will be awarded with a cash prize worth K150, 000; while the runners-up will bag home K80, 000, and the overall top goal scorer will be rewarded with K10, 000.
