Former Manchester United greats, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand have criticised their former club’s midfielder Ander Herrera for not being able to make decisive passes on the field of play.

The rants were made after their former team made two consecutive 2-2 draws in games played in a space of four days, against Southampton last weekend and Arsenal yesterday.

The issue which raised eyebrows from the two gentlemen came from a clip analysis of the game against Southampton.

“You have to question the quality of the player.

“Rio asked the question there when he said: ‘Is Ander Herrera capable of playing that ball to Pogba?’ Now, he’s in 15-20 yards of space, it’s probably a 30-yard ball – a simple ball – if he’s not good enough to play that ball then he shouldn’t be at this club,” Scholes told BT Sport .

Ferdinand also took time to criticise Herrera citing lack of confidence in the Spaniard.

“It is an easy ball and when you hear Paul Scholes say that… he was a player who could put the ball on a sixpence from anywhere on the pitch, but when you look at that pass it’s not a difficult ball to play. I think it’s confidence,” he pointed out.

United are sitting out of the top four in the Premier League, 8 points behind Chelsea on fourth, and will play Fulham this weekend.
