Karonga United has embarked in a fundraising move by selling materials carrying their team’s colours as they are planning to come up with team-running money for the 2019 season, in the absence of sponsors.
Karonga is one of the teams which have struggled financially in the just ended season, since the league involves much travelling, and this has made the team consider starting early financial preparations by producing stickers and other materials.
The team is selling the stickers at K700, and the development has been confirmed by the club’s Marketing Officer, Vincent Bwinga, who says in the mean time they have 2000 stickers in stock, and also confirmed there are plans of coming up with other materials.
“We are not expecting much from stickers because they are cheap. For a start we have produced 2000 stickers. We will continue producing more depending on the demand. We are also producing IDs for supporters. Currently we have started collecting money for photo IDs to those interested to have one. We are also planning to produce small flags, and Jerseys as part of generating some funds. We are targeting 10 million from these Initiatives,” he confirmed to Malawi Sports.
The deal for the stickers will see the product producer get half of the proceeds, and the other half shall go to the team.
Karonga finished 7th in last year’s TNM Super League, a position which has seen them qualify for the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
