Malawi netball team and Tigresses towering defender Laureen Ngwira is set to sign a contract for Central-London side, London Pulse, a deal which is yet to materialise if her current side, Tigresses, agree terms of her transfer.

The team has just been promoted to the 10-team Vitality Netball Super League, and it is has become the first team from Central London to have joined the league after replacing Ngwira’s former team Northumbria.

The development has been confirmed on www.netballsl.com, and part of the statement reads: “Jamaican International Shantal Slater is another big-name addition for Pulse along with Malawi’s Laureen Ngwira and youngster Chiara Semple, both of whom featured for Team Northumbria last term.”

Tigresses coach Peace Chawinga, told a local leading newspaper that Tigresses is yet to be approached formally to seal the deal.

“On our side, nothing has been finalised on the deal officially and Laureen remains a Tigresses player. If everything is handled properly and is done according to the rules of the game, we have no problem and we wish her well.

“Our fingers are crossed to see to it that the player goes to the club without any hustles. In fact, we would love this to happen sooner than later,” she told the paper.

Meanwhile, excitement is all over the team for their achievement to have become the first team in Central London to participate in the league.

According to www.netballsl.com, the team’s captain Ama Agbeze, said her expectations for the season is to take each game as it is as they will be trying to get used to each other.

“I think we need to take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead in the season. As we’re a new team we still need to gel and get used to new combinations. We want to set our standard on court and to show what our team looks like. Just establishing a good solid team and being consistent are the key things for us right now I think,” she said.

Pulse’s first game will be against Seven Stars this on Saturday weekend, and it remains to be seen if Ngwira will take part since the deal is yet to be finalised.
