There are doubts whether United Purpose, sponsors of Southern Region Football Association Chitetezo Mbaula (SRFA) League, will extend their deal with SRFA, after the end of an agreed one-year –contract.

The K11.5million sponsorship deal, whose champions are to be confirmed this weekend where contenders Nyasa Big Bullets Reserves and Ntopwa FC will battle it out for the top spot, comes to an end on 4th February, 2019, where the awards presentation ceremony will take place.

United Purpose and the SRFA committee had a meeting last Monday where they talked about how the league has been run, but nothing on a new deal was discussed in the meeting.

However, the NGO’s Marketing Manager Leviness Msafu, says the league has been run perfectly well but it remains to be seen whether they are going to extend the sponsorship.

“It was a new thing as an NGO to support football, there were some fears but we can say we have worked together very well with the Southern Region Football Association and FAM up to this level. The main purpose was to make sure that Chitetezo Mbaula should become a household thing to every Malawian so I think we have managed to do that and it has been a success.

“On extending the sponsorship I think I should say as an NGO we are yet to sit down to talk about this. When we are going to come to a conclusion on the next step to take we will come back and say whether we will continue or not,” the UTD Purpose Marketing manager confirmed to a local radio station.

Commenting on the matter, SRFA Chairperson, Rafael Humba, says the one-year deal with the sponsors has been a success.

“I think we have managed to promote their product, as you know many people were not familiar with Chitetezo Mbaula but many know this now. We have managed to fulfill the contractual agreement we had with them but it’s now up to them to make their own conclusions.

“In the meeting [on Monday] what we centered much on was on the award presentation ceremony for the well performers of the season, and we have planned to throw a wonderful ceremony, one that the league has never witnessed,” Humba said.

But on the deal extension,  Humba said: “At the moment we are yet to know if they will come back to sponsor the league or not, but if they are not ready to do so we won’t panic, we will look for plan B, but all in all we are satisfied with this year’s sponsorship.”

Bullets Reserves and Ntopwa are tied at 95 points in the league, but Bullets are on top with their superior goal difference, and the league toppers will play their last game of the season in a match where the champions will be known this Sunday.

Hassan Kajoke is leading on the goal scoring chats with 38 goals against second placed Fatsani Chilikumtima of 11th placed Nyasa United.
