Kamuzu Barracks (KB) possibly will be without seven key players in the 2019 TNM Super League season as they are expected to leave for peacekeeping duties in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The players are captain and goalkeeper Lemani Nthala, defenders Diof Simaone, Pilirani Makupe and Pempho Kansichiri, and midfielders Gift M’bwana and Ben Hojani. Striker Komani Msiska is also appearing on the list.
The seven are part of the 150 soldiers who have completed a two-month peacekeeping training in Salima, paving way for their United Nations-led mission to the DRC.
Malawi Defence Force (MDF) spokesperson, Paul Chiphwanya said that a new contingent of soldiers could be deployed in August.
KB Coach, Billy Phalamba, confirmed the development but indicated that he is yet to receive official communication from MDF.
“I have just heard that some of my players are leaving for DRC but I cannot confirm this because some of them they are still training with us,” Phambala said.
He added: “We will communicate once we receive official communication. Of course, losing seven players is a huge setback but I have capable replacements.”
In the 2018 season, KB missed the services of Mustafa Salimu, Harvey Mkacha, Vincent Mphepo, Sekani Mhango, Kelvin Hanganda and Zinjani Yona who went to the DRC and are yet to return.
