Malawi national netball team Coach, Griffin Saenda has called 20 players to start non-residential training for preparations ahead of the World Cup set for Liverpool, England, from July 12 to 21.
Saenda included a new a face, Blue Eagles Sisters goal defender, Maggie Sikwese in the squad.
Manchester Thunder shooter Joyce Mvula and Tigresses all-rounder Lauren Ngwira, who is on-loan at London Pulse in the United Kingdom, have also made the squad.
Australian side Melbourne Vixens shooter, Mwawi Kumwenda who is now on injury, is not on the list following the doctor’s advice to stay out of action for a year for well recovery.
The development comes a few days after Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) disclosed that it had offered year-long contracts to Saenda and his deputy, Whyte Mulilima.
Saenda has also included skipper Joana Kachilika, Vice Captain Jane Chimaliro, Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda, Caroline Mtukule- Ngwira, Sindie Simtowe- Msowoya, Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango and Beatrice Mpinganjira.
Nam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said players would train within their regions before embarking on full-time camping.
Meanwhile, Bapu did not disclose when the squad would start full-time training as the association was waiting for funds from the government.
