FIFA legend and former Nigerian international Yakubu Ayegbeni will arrive in Malawi today on a FIFA foundation mission to help the recovery effort in areas affected by Cyclone Idai.
The former Everton striker will together with the foundation officials visit the lower shire districts of Chikhwawa and Nsanje on Friday.
FAM Competitions and Communications Director, Gomezgani Zakazaka said that the main mission of the visit is to review the extent of the damage caused by the recent floods on sports infrastructure with the aim of identifying the most effective ways to offer help.
“FIFA Foundation is willing to help us recover from the disaster in as far sport infrastructure is concerned. We visited the two districts last week and identified football facilities that were damaged by the floods which the delegation will inspect,” Zakazaka.
He added that Yakubu will interact with the kids in the floods camps and hold football sessions with them.
After visiting Malawi, they will travel to Zimbabwe which was also affected by Cyclone Idai.
Tropical Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, leaving more than 1,000 people dead and thousands others misses.
Meanwhile, FIFA foundation established in 2018 and its goal is to use the power of football to promote positive social change.
