Atletico Madrid has requested La Liga to block the transfer of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona, as the two clubs continues to dispute over the payment fee, Malawi sports can confirm.
Our sources have stated that earlier this Month, Griezmann signed for Barcelona for a sum of €120 million after the Spanish giants triggered the buyout clause in his Atletico contract.
However, Atletico are insisting that Barcelona did not pay enough for the player. The buyout clause had dropped from €200m to €120 on July 1, but Atletico claim that Griezmann’s may14 announcement that he was leaving the club is proof that the deal was struck between the player and Barcelona much earlier.
Previously, Atletico accused Barcelona of approaching Griezmann behind their back, and now they have taken the issue to the Spanish league Authorities for a Verdict.
LaLiga president Javier Tebas told Spanish radio station Onda Cero on Wednesday that Atletico submitted a complaint and put in doubt whether they should pass Griezmanns license. There’s a process that has been put in motion and those overseeing it will have to come to resolve the dispute.
It is possible to block a player’s transfer therefore La Liga will have to decide what course of action to take.
He (Griezmann) has already played a friendly game for his new club, a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea In japan on Tuesday. Barcelona has spent approximately €235m on new players so far this summer, including the €75m capture of Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong from Ajax.
