Indigenous Malawians have been promoted in the cricket sports following Pakistan’s honorary consul which, Raja Satti expressed the commitment of the promotion.

Satti made the remarks at Mpingwe Sports Club after hosting a pre-Pakistan Independence Day celebration tournament which falls on August 14 but was celebrated in Malawi on Sunday.

“We have involved more local students in the games. This way, we will empower them to learn the sport and teach others,” he said.

Chaudry Mahmood, Chairperson of Pakistan Welfare Association said it was important to celebrate the day with indigenous Malawians.

“We are creating a bond that will help us to work together,” Mahmood said.

Team Lilongwe defeated Team Blantyre during the tournament, with a wicket to win the competition.

Israr Ahmed produced 41 runs to inspire Lilongwe to victory, who deservedly was supposed to be named Man-of-the-Match following his outstanding performance.

Team Lilongwe also dominated the individual category after Hafiz Usman was named best bowler whereas Salman Sunny was voted best fielder.

Team Blantyre was also impressive, with Quaid-e-azam inspiring his colleagues.

The hosts’ Imran Khan was named best batsman.

Team Lilongwe Captain, Adil Chaudry, said they planned well to reclaim the title which they surrendered last year.

“We have accomplished the mission and it feels great to get the trophy back from Blantyre at their backyard. It was a tough tournament,” Adil said.

Blantyre Captain, Karamat Chaudry, said it was unfortunate that they lost the trophy.

“We played well but luck was not on our side. We will work hard next time to get it back,” Chaudry said.
