De Klerk Msakakuona, a Malawi under-17 national football team Coach, believes that he has assembled a good squad that is ready to challenge for honours at the Cosafa Youth Championship which kicks off today at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.
Msakakuona announced his final squad which faces its first test against South Africa Saturday afternoon.
Msakakuona urged the all football lovers to come in large number to support for their nation.
“This is a team full of talent. These are youngsters and I know that Malawians will support them. Competition was stiff and it was not easy to decide on which player to pick. During training, we were looking at talent, willingness to learn and the spirit to fight for the team,” he said.
Msakakuona said he is also mindful of the youngsters’ future as they needed to be properly groomed.
“We were also considering their future. This is not the end; it is just the beginning. We have a good squad which Malawians will love,” he said.
The junior Flames twice finished with bronze medals in the 2016 and 2017 championships in Mauritius.
They won the competition when they last hosted it in 2001.
