Sanwecka FC have won First Capital Bank (FCB) Mzuzu Under-20 Football League with five games to play.They are leading the 14 teams in Mzuzu City League with an unsurmountable 67 points from 23 games.
Topic Academy FC is on second place with 51 points from 23 games while Mbahewe FC are third with 48 points from 22 games.
Speaking in an interview, Mzuzu Youth Football Committee (MYFC) chairperson Panji Kamanga commended Sanwecka for winning the title because Sanwecka win Mzuzu City FCB Under-20 championship with five games in hand.
“We are winding up on November 2. The champions have already been known as no team can match Sanwecka FC on points,” Kamanga said.
Despite scooping the championship, Sanwecka FC team manager Benjamin Thole said they will not relax.
“Of course, we have lifted Mzuzu City championship, but we still have a long way to go. Our target is to win the national championship. We will continue to train hard to achieve that,” Thole said.
Sanwecka’s player Chancy Kaonga is also leading the goal scorers chart with 21 goals followed by Suzgo Nyondo of Itel All Stars FC with17 goals.
According to Northern Region Youth Football Association (NRYF) general secretary Bellings Desire, Sanwecka will face Karonga, Nkhata Bay and Rumphi champions in the regional finals scheduled to take place on November 16.
Meanwhile, Kasowa FC is leading Karonga District League with 29 points from 13 games played, Chihame All Stars is topping the Nkhata Bay League with 31 points from 11 games while Chandamale is leading Rumphi District League with 32 points from 14 games.
Sanwecka will receive K400, 000 for being Mzuzu City champions while district champions will get K300, 000. FCB is sponsoring the competition to the tune of K35 million up from last year’s K30 million.
