Mzuzu Warriors (formerly Mzuni) accused their fellow Northern Region side, Karonga United for signing players without following proper procedures.
Karonga recently took on board Ramadhan Mtafu and Suzgo Mwakasinga from the Mzuzu-based side.
Mzuzu Warriors general secretary, Donnex Chilonga, while responding to a question about how the team has shaped up for the new season having lost some players to Karonga, said he was puzzled to see the duo signing for the lakeshore-based team without their knowledge.
“The players will not play for the team until they are cleared by us because they have running contracts with Mzuzu Warriors. We just learnt from the social media and other platforms,” he said.
Karonga United general secretary, Ramsy Simwaka confirmed signing Mwakasinga without the blessing of the parent team.
“We discovered later that he needed the authorisation of Mzuzu Warriors and then we let him go. On Mtafu, we did not sign him, but we are discussing with the parent club because we are interested in his services,” he said.
The Mzuzu-based side also lost the services of assistant coach, Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa who is now with the newly-promoted side Ekwendeni Hammers as head coach.
Mzuzu Warriors survived relegation last season.
