Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has outlined several preventive measures to be followed by national football team players if it gets a nod from government to start camping ahead of international events.

Fam is waiting for government’s consent before sanctioning Flames camp in readiness of Cosafa Cup in South Africa next month and Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in November.

In a document which the association presented to association presented to government on the national team preparations, the Fam Special Task Force on Covid-19 has proposed to disinfect Mpira Village premises including rooms, stadium and offices before camping starts.

Chairperson for Fam Special TaskForce on Covid-19, Chimango Munthali confirmed about the document and said the conditions will depend on the authorisation of government.

“All national team players will be tested before we start camping. While in camp, the players will not be allowed to go in public places. In addition, every player will be allocated own room unlike in the past,” he said.

Flames captain John Banda said the safety of the players was important.

The Flames are third in Group B of Afcon qualifiers with three points from two games having defeated South Sudan 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium but lost 2-0 away to Uganda in Kampala.

Afcon qualifiers were suspended in March due to the pandemic. Caf recently announced dates for the return of the qualifiers in November.
