Three players are in a tight race for the TNM Super League Golden Boot Award.
Moyale’s Deus Nkutu still leads the scorers’ chart with 16 goals, but breathing down his neck are his team mate Gastin Simkonda and Red Lions’ Kumbukani Mwambene who have 15 goals apiece.
Mwambene revived his chances of clinching the award when he scored a goal in his team’s 2-0 win over Epac on Sunday.
Nkutu looked poised to win the award until two weeks ago when his striking partner Simkonda claimed a hat-trick in his team’s 3-2 win over Mafco that also revived Moyale’s hopes for the title.
Former Big Bullets star forward Ganizani ‘Njoka’ Malunga who scored 29 goals in 2003, said the race for the Golden Boot Award has reached an exciting stage.
It is even more exciting because Nkutu is competing against his striking partner. I think there is a chance that the top scorer could reach the 20-goal mark this time around.
“Any of the three can win the award, but Nkutu and Simkonda have an added advantage because Moyale have two games to wind up the season,” said Malunga.
