Flames and Polokwane City star striker Esau Kanyenda has asked the football community not to criticise players based on their age but rather to judge them by their performance.
Kanyenda made the remarks following Malawi’s 2-1 win against Mali last Saturday in their 2015 Afcon qualifiers.
Kanyenda had been sidelined from the Flames and only got back in the squad on public demand alongside another veteran winger Fischer Kondowe.
The striker also scored in last week’s game in the 85th minute to hand Malawi’s second goal of the game.
“Like I said before a player should be judged by his performance and not age,” Kanyenda said.
On the other hand Flames Captain Joseph Kamwendo hailed Kanyenda and Fischer for their contribution.
“There is nothing more I can say about Esau and Fischer,” Kamwendo said. “You have seen yourself how these experienced players have contributed to our victory.”
