Standard Bank of Malawi has donated MK 5 million to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to help Malawi national team the flames in its 2015 African Cup of Nation qualifying campaign.
Speaking after the donation on Monday in the commercial capital Blantyre, Standard Bank Legal Manager Etness Chanza said the bank was moved to assist the team as one way of motivating the players.
“We at Standard Bank believe that our investment in football will further inspire a boy somewhere in the villages. We know that boys do inspire that one day they could be one of those guys who are playing international soccer within Malawi and outside Malawi,” Chanza said.
She said the donation was also part of the bank’s commitment to the development of football in the country.
On his part, FAM President Walter Nyamilandu Manda hailed the gesture shown Standard Bank.
Malawi flames is currently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for its final must win match against Ethiopia to be played on Wednesday.
The flames is in group B with six points from five games and is at par with Mali.
