Premier mobile network provider Telekom Network Malawi (TNM) has donated MK5 million to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to help Malawi national team the flames as it prepares for 2015 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifying campaign against Mali on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.
Speaking after presenting the donation to FAM at a ceremony held at TNM’s Head office in Blantyre, Chief Commercial Officer Dan Makata said their cannot be football in the country without the company.
“TNM as the biggest sponsor of football through the Super League feels obliged to come to the rescue of our national team. As a brand, TNM is in football for long-term and is anxious to see the Flames qualify. Anything we can do to clear any hurdles they may face, we are always keen to do it, and this donation reaffirms that commitment,” he said.
On his part, FAM President Walter Nyamilandu Manda applauded the gesture shown by TNM and urged other companies in the country to follow suit.
Commenting on the national team’s preparation against Mali today, Nyamilandu expressed hope that Malawi will carry the day.
Malawi is currently anchoring the bottom position in group B with 3 points from four games.
