Azam tigers FC whose coach Franco Ndawa was fired at the beginning of the year have now appointed former head coach for Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets FC as the new coach on a three-year contract deal.
Malawi-Sports speaking to Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika confirmed saying that Phiri has taken charge of the Kau-Kau boys and is yet to name his backroom staff.
Alufandika said Phiri has been given a target to “finish in the top three of the Super League and win at least one or two cups.”
Phiri’s last job was at Wanderers last season from Bullets where he served as head coach the previous year. He resigned at Wanderers following a string of poor results that had some Nomads fans baying for his blood.
Tiger’s manager Steve Madeira said they are “delighted to secure a man of Gerald Phiri’s calibre.”
