The match between Big Bullets FC and Red Lions which was played on Saturday in order to raise funds to assist the flood victims’ grossed K1.8 million (about $3 600).
Malawi-Sports speaking in an interview with Bullets general secretary Harold Fote, said from the income, K500 000 ($1 000) will go to the flood victims while the rest will be shared among the teams and Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
Fote further revealed that apart from the gate collections they also received bags of maize flour and blankets from some well-wishers.
He said, as a club, Bullets was concerned about the plight of the people affected by the floods.
It is clear that we have supporters residing in the areas affected by floods. That is why we have joined hands with government and other organisations in raising funds for the effected people, he said.
So far the floods have killed over 200 people while 200,000 more have been displaced and left homeless.
