The government of Malawi has disclosed that the Lilongwe Stadium which is under construction will be named after the late President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika who died while in office.
Minister of Sports Grace Obama Chiumia disclosed this in an interview with the Press.
Chiumia said the decision was arrived at during the recent Cabinet Ministers’ meeting.
“We have decided to name the International Stadium after the late President Bingu wa Mutharika because he is the one who came up with the idea”, said Chiumia.
When asked how government is going to run the Stadium, Chaumia said the Cabinet meeting did not look at that point but she said the point will be discussed in the next meeting.
The stadium which is expected to be finalized this year by September will be accommodating over 40 thousand fans.
