Netball Association of Malawi summoned netball giants Diamond Queens to a hearing expected to take place on 23 January at Blantyre Youth Centre for various misconducts during the just ended season of the GOtv Netball Champions League.
Information gathered by Malawi-Sports show that on October 18 last year, Diamonds allegedly manhandled timekeeper Dalitso Chinyama, accusing her of meddling with the time which led to their lose during a match against Complex Tigresses.
Diamonds accused the timekeeper of deliberately delaying to alert the umpires that time was up for them to whistle for the end of the game that allowed Tigresses shooter Sindie Simtowe to score the basket that sank Diamonds.
Nam disciplinary committee has since summoned Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda, team doctor a Mrs Chilemba, skipper Carol Mtukule-Ngwira and other senior players for a disciplinary hearing set for Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.
Speaking in an interview with our reporter Daud Ntanthiko who is also Nam’s acting chairperson confirmed of the development promising a fair and independent trial to the concerned parties.
Ntanthiko said all concerned parties, except two players who are reported to have travelled to different places, have been served with the summons.
“Everything is now set for the hearing. Everyone will be given chance to call witnesses and also cross-examine,” he said.
Saenda and Chilemba have been charged with use of abusive language or conduct that may bring the game of netball into disrepute contrary to Clause 23 of the 2014 GOtv Netball Champions League competition rules.
The team’s captain, Mtukule-Ngwira, alongside Annie Phiri, shooters Alinafe Kamwala, Grace Chazungulira and Sarudzai Gondwe have separately been charged with engaging in violence and/or conduct that may bring the game of netball into disrepute contrary to Clause 23 of the GOtv Netball Champions League competition rules.
The five are being accused of assaulting the timekeeper although Sarudzai Gondwe, who reportedly travelled to South Africa, also faces an additional charge of allegedly threatening the timekeeper that she would beat her wherever they would meet.
