The Under-20 Women’s Cup final which was expected to take place on January 10 this year but was postponed due to lack of funds is expected to resume on February 8 2015 at Luwinga Sports Complex in Mzuzu.
Information reaching Malawi-Sports show that the National Women Football Committee (NWFC) has finally received the long-awaited K9 million ($18 000) sponsorship from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).
According to the committee’s chairperson Severia Chalira, Fifa, through FAM, has released the money and right now it is in our account, so we have set the finals for Sunday, February 8 2015 at Luwinga Sports Complex in Mzuzu.
Everything is set. All necessary communication has been made and we are, therefore, urging the public to come and witness the event, she said.
NWFC launched the tournament last year, targeting Under-20 players from school teams and clubs in all regions.
This year three teams from all regions are expected to battle it out for the national championship crown.
The three regional champions for the finals played in December are Blantyre Zero (South), DD Sunshine (Centre) and Moyale Youth (North).
The regional champions received K750 000 (about $1 500) each while the national champions will pocket K1.5 million $3 000).
