TNM Super League and Carlsberg Cup Champions Big Bullets FC on Sunday beat Fomboni FC 1-0 at their own back yard to increase chances of qualifying to the next round of CAF Champions League.
Both side started the game on a slow pace but it was the home team that settled earlier giving Bullets FC tough time in the field.
Fomboni FC’s striker Winster Phiri gave the People’s team defence lots of problem in the first half as he could attack from left and right but this yield nothing as the defence of Sankhani Mkandawire, Yamikani Fodya, Pilirani Zonda and Bashir Maunde proved too strong for him.
The first half ended in draw with home time having an upper hand in ball possession.
Come second half, the people’s team looked the changed side as the started the game on high note pilling pressure on the home side.
No wonder the people’s team got the first corner which was poorly taken by Fitcher Kondowe, giving a relief to the home team.
Bullets coach, Nsazarwimo Ramadhan made early changes to add fire power upfront by bringing in Tizgowele Kumwenda for Victor Limbani and Jafali Chande replaced Mussa Manyenje.
The change yield results in the dying minutes of the second half when Kumwendo scored from a long range short.
Speaking in an interview with Matindi Fm Sport’s commentator Williams Gondwa, Bullets coach hailed his charges for playing according to his instructions.
The win means the People’s team will just need a draw in the next leg to be played at Kamuzu Stadium on February 28, 2015 to qualify for the next round.
