Zambezi Soccer Challenge Cup which this year will only two teams Big Bullets FC and Zimbabwe’s aps united, has been slated March 3 at a venue yet-to-be-announced Lilongwe.
General Secretary of the organizing committee Kelvin Moyo, confirming of the development with Malawi_Sports revealed that Caps United of Zimbabwe are expected to arrive on Saturday.
A 27-member Caps delegation arrives through Lilongwe where they are expected to tune up against Silver Strikers on March 1.
“They are coming with their business development manager. This is an opportunity for our clubs to learn from him. Caps will also face Bullets in a friendly match on March 4 at Kamuzu Stadium,” said Moyo.
Moyo further explained that 70 percent of the gate revenue from the Kamuzu Stadium match will go towards Bullets’ 2015 CAF Champions League campaign.
Bullets this Saturday are expected to host Fomboni de Moheli in a return leg of the Champions League preliminary round.
Bullets general secretary Harold Fote confirmed the March 3 match, while hinting that the second match’s date was subject to further discussion.
He, however, noted that the tricky part is on whether the two teams would travel from Lilongwe and face each other in Blantyre the following day.
There is a trophy and K3 million (about $6 600) for the winners and K1 million (about $2 270) for the losers.
This year’s cup will only feature two teams Big Bullets FC and Caps United due to time limitations leaving out Mighty be forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers FC, revealed the organisers.
