The southern Region Netball League (SRNL) might be under scare after the official sponsors’ OG Issa Group of Companies announced their withdrawal of the sponsorship package.
Making the announcement OG Plastic deputy general manager, Francis Mponela, after presenting the trophy on Saturday to champions Diamonds, whom beat Complex Tigresses 36-33 during finals of the 2014 season!
“We have enjoyed sponsoring the league for the past five years, but I have to say that this is the last competition to be financially supported by the OG Issa Group of Companies. We might think of coming back in the future,” said Mponela.
The news come barely two months before the 2015 netball season commences, however SRNL chairperson Khungekile Matiya said they were not shocked with the development as they had already been notified.
She thanked OG Issa for a five-year cordial relationship, saying: “They were very understanding whenever we faced challenges.”
OG Issa started sponsoring SRNL in 2009 with a K300 000 backing. The support is being withdrawn after it steadily increased to K3.5 million. Under OG Issa sponsorship, Diamonds won the title four times whereas Tigresses won it once.
