Real Madrid CF have equaled the record for successive UEFA Champions League victories with their 2-0 win at FC Schalke 04 in Wednesday’s round of 16 first leg.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side have won every game they have played in the competition since the 1-0 home success against FC Bayern München in last season’s semi-final first leg.
They duly match Bayern’s ten-game winning run set in 2013.
In another game Porto dealt Basel’s hopes of a maiden Champions League quarter final a blow as Danilo’s late penalty denied them a first-leg victory in their last-16 tie at St. Jakob-Park.
Derlis Gonzalez’s 11th-minute strike appeared to have settled the tie in favour of the Swiss champions but Danilo’s penalty 10 minutes from time, after Walter Samuel was adjudged to have handled in the area, ensured it would end level. In the end the game ended 1-1.
