The football fraternity on Saturday woke up to the shocking news of the death of Airborne Rangers striker Leonard Mgemezulu who died in Lilongwe after complaining of headache.
Last month, the team lost defender Noel Mlelemba.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) general secretary Williams Banda said they were saddened by the death of Mgemezulu.
“We have lost a player who contributed a lot to the development of football at his club, Airborne Rangers. This is a sad development in the game of football in this country because it was last month when we were burying another player from the same team,” he said.
Mafco FC player Zasher Nong’oneza said the country has lost a man who was dedicated to football and had the skills.
“He was dedicated but above all he was humble. Everybody will remember him for that,” said Nong’oneza.
Burial for the late Mgemezulu will be held in Nkhata-bay on Tuesday.
