Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has taken another step in football as it has introduced Under-14 Nation team.
This was revealed on Saturday the 7th of March 2015, as FAM president Walter NYamilandu, was presiding over awards to schools that made to the finals in the school premier division league hosted by the Malawi Schools Sports Association.
In his speech, Nyamilandu said is delighted to note that most youth in Malawi are taking in Football which has brought more interest to many investors who are now supporting the discipline.
“I never knew that youth in the country can play such fantastic football hence am revealing that FAM is planning to introduce a new national team which will involve the young stars whose ages are ranging from 14,” Nyamilandu said.
The president added that the team will represent Malawi in Denmark or Norway next year.
“We want to explore our talents through the youth,” the president said.
In addition to the same issue, he said there is need of support to organize the team as trials will commence as soon as possible.
“We need more money of at least 3 million Kwacha to do the trials, however I can assure the Nation that with or without any fund FAM will do all it can to make sure that the team is introduced to Malawian people,” he said.
Nyamilandu, however, congratulated Namiwawa Primary school and Makata CCAP primary school for making it to the finals in the league.
The match took place at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre where Namiwawa Primary school beat Makata Primary school 4-1.
In an interview a Namiwawa primary school pupil Joseph Maulidi, said he is happy that they have emerged the champions and he however, congratulated FAM for coming up with an idea to introduce an Under 14 nation team.
“When we started I never thought we could reach this far however glory be to Allah for giving us this victory,” said Malidadi.
