
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has been fined $1,000 for its decision to withdraw from the African Nations Championship (CHAN).The association registered for the tournament but pulled out suddenly a month before the 2016 draw was made.
According to the rules and regulations of the tournament, an association which withdraws before the preliminary phase after having registered shall entail a fine of $1000 in addition to forfeiting the entry fees of US$500.
“It shall not be authorized to take part in the next edition of the tournament,” it said on Thursday.
Earlier, FAM President Walter Nyamilandu said the association decided to withdraw due to lack of funds.
