Complex Tigresses have once again proven their determination to reclaim the Sothern Region Netball League trophy as they beat Diamonds Queens 39-29 who were hoping to go top of the table last weekend at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC).
Diamonds, who were without their influential coach Griffin Saenda, struggled for the better part of the match saw in form Tigresses leading the first quarter by 10-6 baskets before extending the lead to 19-14 at half time.
Goal shooter Ellen Chibokho and goal attacker Sindie Simtowe rotated roles as they penetrated Diamonds ring at will while wing attacker Rose Saili and centre Licy Akidu-Fiwa were available to supply telling passes.
Diamonds goalkeeper Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda and goal-defender Carol Mtukule-Ngwira were aggressive and gave away some needless fouls while upfront Grace Chazungulira and Jessica Mazengera- Sanudi were not at their best.
Speaking to Malawi-Sports, Tigresses coach Peace Chawinga- Kalua, who of recently was named the new Malawi Queens coach, said despite winning her charges did not execute 100 percent of the instructions.
“It’s good that we have won. Otherwise, the players followed about 60 percent of the instructions we gave them,” she said.
On the other hand Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa said they were disappointed with the result but vowed to bounce back.
