The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has announced the national netball team, the Queens, will not travel to Botswana to participate in this year’s African Netball Championship.
NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu said shifting of the tournament from Namibia to Botswana has affected the team.
“The team was supposed to go straight into camp after the Diamond Championship played in South Africa but we advised the girls to go to home as we were not sure about funding,” said Bapu.
The NAM General Secretary said the association was disturbed with the withdrawal of Namibia as hosts and the subsequent approval of Botswana as new hosts for the African Championship.
It’s the change that has contributed for us not to take part in the tournament, she added.
Meanwhile, she said the team will now concentrate on World Cup preparations. The games will take place in August in Sydney, Australia.
