Dedza Young Soccer on Wednesday thrashed Kamuzu Barracks 10-9 through post-match penalties to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Standard Bank Knockout Cup at Civo Stadium.
Kamuzu Barracks, the host started the game on the high not pressing Dedza Young Soccer from left and right in search for an early goal. Although this was the case, Dedza Young Soccer managed to contain the pressure.
In the 17th minute of the first half, Dedza Young Soccer surprised Kamuzu Barracks as the team scored an opener through Fletcher Banda from a well-curled free-kick from over 28 metres.
As Dedza Young Soccer was celebrating the goal, Kamuzu Barracks equalized 6 minutes later through Manase Chiyetsa and the first half ended 1-1.
Come second half, Kamuzu Barracks also dominated the proceedings and no wonder the team increased the lead through Weld Nkuliwa in the 68th minutes.
Dedza Young Soccer changed the system of play and the team managed to equalize through a penalty after Kamuzu Barracks defender handed the ball in the danger zone and the match ended in 2-all draw.
In the post-match penalties, Dedza Young Soccer managed to score 10 spot kicks while Kamuzu Barracks scored 9 as Victor Nangwale missed.
The development means Dedza Young Soccer will face Civo United in the quarter finals.
