Malawi national football team has dropped five places on the latest Fifa rankings, Malawi-sports.com can reveal.
The development comes at a time the team is preparing for an away match against the Taifa-stars in Tanzania in the 2018 FIFA World Cup preliminary first leg qualifiers scheduled to be played on October 7, 2015.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) officials have confirmed of the development in an interview with this publication, saying this will not in any way affects the team’s preparations against Tanzania.
According to information at hand, flames have dropped from position 96 to 101.
The development has been attributed to the recent poor performance of the team in the 2017 African Cup of Nation qualifying campaign where the team drew with Swaziland.
However, their opponents in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, have moved four places up the ladder, from 140 in September to 136 in October.
