Be Forward Limited have penned Wanderers’ board of trustees, stating that the Japanese automobile dealers still want the George Chamangwana-led main executive committee in office as a pre-condition for continued sponsorship.
But the trustees have insisted on holding supporters committee elections on January 30, then main executive committee’s polls on February 6, the board’s secretary, Patrick Jumbe, confirmed Wednesday.
“We don’t need to agree with them. We noted their position, but we also have an obligation to follow the constitution. If the current executive committee did well, they will be voted back in office,” Jumbe said, adding that Be Forward did not state the consequences of electing new office bearers.
Be Forward reportedly made the pre-condition when pledging to increase annual sponsorship from K70 million to over K100 million.
In last Wednesday’s letter addressed to Be Forward official Ken Mizuyama, Wanderers general secretary, Mike Butao, asked the sponsors to set the record straight “as some people believe I was lying and that I said that only to protect our positions.”
In a response, Mizuyama said, “Yes, it is true. We had very good jobs in 2015. Be Forward wants to continue to work with the same committee for 2016.
Earlier, executive committee aspirants such as Chipiliro Mpinganjira claimed that the current executive was using the sponsors as a bait to avoid the elections.
