Malawi Schools Sports Association Copa Coca-Cola football competition has received an overwhelming response after 100 new schools registered for the first time.
The world’s largest brand-supported grassroots football initiative will be launched Saturday at Ekwendeni Community Grounds in Mzimba District.
In this year’s edition, 1550 school teams have registered, up from last year which saw 1450 teams registering.
For the first time in the competition’s history, Kamuzu Academy and Saint Andrews have joined the schools competition, Coca-Cola Malawi senior brands manager, Titha Mbilizi, confirmed.
“One of the highlights at the launch event will be an actual zone game where winners will move onto the next phase. The tournament this year also boasts improved compliance to the age requirements. Copa Coca-Cola targets Under-15’s with the aim of identifying talent, and offering opportunities for teens to pursue their dreams,” she said.
“Copa Coca-Cola unites football-loving teens in every part of the country promoting an active, healthy lifestyle and encouraging values that are the foundation of life and sportsmanship.”
Zonal games kicked-off on 16 January.
