Nyasa Big Bullets last Saturday woke up to a shocking realization that their billboard erected near Limbe Flea Market by sponsors Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) had been vandalized.
NMC marketing director Steve Munthali said the incident was a big setback after the company spent a lot of money paying Blantyre City Council to have the billboard erected.
Munthali said, as a marketing drive, they were on a campaign of erecting Bullets Billboards across the country at a cost of K100000 ($137).
Now Bullets officials and supporters feel it is an inside job done by some individuals who are not happy with the K500million ($683060), five-year sponsorship launched on Monday at Atmosphere in Blantyre.
Bullets chairperson Sam Chilunga said he was shocked by the incident.
“It’s sad that at a time when our sponsors are trying to uplift the team, someone can do that,” said Chilunga.
The chairperson has urged Bullets’ supporters to unite to safeguard the sponsorship from NMC.
Bullets supporters’ committee chairperson Stone Mwamadi suspected that some quarters within the club were responsible.
“It’s worrisome that someone would do that. There are several billboards in Blantyre, why would someone target that of Bullets?” Mwamadi wondered.
He has since promised to conduct an investigation within the supporters to find out the ones responsible.
