Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has become a second domestic body to release a calendar of events for 2016 season.
However, the calendar is blank on some events, raising fears that the season could be prolonged again. Athletics Association of Malawi were the first to release a calendar last month.
The association’s long-awaited annual general meeting (AGM) has been drafted into the calendar, but it has no specific period on when it will be held.
Similarly, the umpires, coaches and administration courses have been placed on the calendar of events, but without specific period on when they will be held.
Nam has also included the Cosana and Diamond Challenge on the calendar without specifying the period the tournaments will be held.
However, the calendar of events starts with the Airtel Money national netball trophy from February to May.
Malawi national junior netball team training has been earmarked for March and July. Malawi Queens will also regroup for camp training on various occasions, including in June.
Other well-known events on the schedule include the Fast-Five tournament, GOtv Netball Champions League and the Netball World Youth Championship.
Nam general secretary, Carol Bapu, said it was difficult to commit the association to confirm dates of some events due to various reasons ranging from funding and logistics.
“For instance, we will wait for Cosana and Diamond Netball Challenge organizers to confirm the dates of the events as such we can’t gamble on the dates. We also need funding to hold various events such as the courses and AGM. Those events will depend on the availability of funds,” she said.
Bapu said Nam has released the calendar of events to enable stakeholders to plan.
