The weekend was very delightful for the likes of Esau Kanyenda, an Evergreen Malawian striker, who opened his delayed scoring account on Saturday afternoon in the Absa Premier Soccer League in South Africa.
As he was just restored to the starting line-up, Kanyenda’s presence was felt at Peter Mokaba Stadium, after scoring a first minute goal for his relegation-endangered Polokwane City in motion to 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos.
Sipho Jembula added the second for City to condemn further Kanyenda’s former employers, Cosmos, into the relegation zone.
Brice Aka netted the consolation for Cosmos who had another Malawian, Micium Mhone coming off the bench in the second half.
In other games involving Malawians, Flames captain Limbikani Mzava was a surprise absentee for Mpumalanga Black Aces on Saturday as they beat Chippa United 1-0 in Nelspruit on Saturday night.
Aces, with Patrick Mabedi on the technical bench as an assistant coach, netted through seasoned Zambian forward Collins Mbesuma, who made it his 11th goal of the season.
The victory lifted Aces above Bidvest Wits to second place on the Absa table, three points behind Mamelodi Sundowns after 16 games. Chippa are sixth in the standings
