After winning the International World Games Association (IWGA) Athlete-of-the Year 2015 Award two weeks ago, Malawians netball star, Mwawi Kumwenda is yet to know when and where she would be presented her trophy.
Rosy Chinunda president of the Netball Association of Malawi pointed out that she was in the dark on the presentation of the trophy.
“Information is not flowing to us. We are anxious to know when our own player will be formally honoured by the whole world. We cannot wait to see her lift that trophy,” Chinunda said.
Also she expressed how possibilities are high that Kumwenda would not receive any financial reward.
Winner for the 2014 title, Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic waited until July 11 last year to get his trophy at 2015 Climbing World Cup in France.
On behalf of IWGA president José Perurena, IWGA chief executive, Joachim Gossow, presented a commemorative trophy recognizing Ondra’s outstanding achievements in 2014.
Marcel Hassemeier from Germany received his trophy on March 31, 2014 after winning the 2013 edition of the award.
Going by the trend, Mwawi will surely have to wait for several months before she lifts the coveted trophy.
