Malawi’s renowned military outfit Red Lions have roped in former national football team left back Mike Kumanga as head coach.
Kumanga, who once worked as an assistant coach, before taking charge as caretaker for the team confirmed the development.
Kumanga watched the game as Red Lions were massacred 4-1 at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday in a pre-season warm up while his former Moyale Barracks teammate Prichard Mwansa was in charge probably for the last time.
“I cannot confirm that I have been appointed head coach for Red Lions. I am ready for the task as I have also played football at the club and national team,”,Kumanga said.
Coincidental Kumanga and Mwansa were in the same dream team of the inaugural Carlsberg Cup winners with Stereo Gondwe, Victor Phiri and Lameck Mughogho.
The development comes after an unimpressive run of Red Lions who have lived up to the people’s expectation as potential title winners since the tutelage of coach Franco Ndawa.
Mwansa has not been doing well during the preseason having lost to Mighty Be Forward Wanderers 2-1 last week.
