The last of several series of Blantyre and District Darts League (BDDL) pre-season tournaments will be held on Saturday at Smile Mart at Chadzunda.
Newly-elected chairman Goodwin Mwakanema said this will also be where the new committee will announce the 2016-2017 season’s calendar, which will be drafted on Friday.
On the day he was voted into office at Moth Club at Sunnyside last Saturday, Mwakanema pledged to introduce The Chairman’s trophy at K400,000 and he said this would probably have to be played as a major closing pre-season event.
“Having flooded the teams with so many competitions, the last one being this coming Saturday, we will hold The Chairman’s Trophy next off season,” he said.
“We are meeting this Friday to set up with no much time left and being the sponsor, I’ll leave it to the committee to decide the format and when it should be played. Mind you this will be the final game of all pre seasons matches that shall be arranged.”
Mwakanema also sourced funding for pre-season tournaments at K400,000 at Smilemart at Chadzunda on 12th March. On the 19th they took the party to Tedzani and on Easter Saturday, the darts party was at While Village.
Mwakanema is also expected to reveal more if the pledge he made if setting up a secretariat for BDDL of which he already donated a lap top and a printer.
He also said through a Vision 2020, he intends to increase club participation from 13 to 20 by reviving the less active clubs and those that are defunct.
On sponsorship, Mwakanema said he has courted potential sponsors selling his proposal to support the sport.
“My aim is not to obtain seasonal sponsorship but to strike a contract with a minimum of five years. In this way we are assured of long term activities.”
