Real Madrid legend Luis Figo has expressed his believe that  Manchester City can beat his former club  and progress to the Champions League final.

Figo played for Real from 2000 to 2005 during the club’s Galaticos era, winning two La Liga titles, a Champions League, a European Super Cup and a World Club Championship.

And he says City’s investment in recent years means they will pose a serious threat to the La Liga side’s chances of making the final in Milan next month.

“It is not always easy to find so many top players that can play together at the same time in the same team,” he said. “Manchester City are financially strong and have plenty of chances to buy the players they want but that is no assurance they will win trophies.

“Nevertheless, money makes them a lot, lot stronger, of course, and they have a good, good chance of getting into the final.”

Before moving to the Bernabeu, Figo played alongside Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.

He says the incoming City boss will be fantastic for the Premier League, with his passion for the game and the intensity with which he works set to have a significant impact at the Etihad.

“I didn’t know for sure he [Guardiola] would become a coach,” Figo said. “But what you could see was that he was crazy about football, crazy about the game. He was like a coach on the pitch. His arrival will be fantastic for the Premier League

“I like Manuel Pelligrini- he is a gentleman – so wish him the best too. But Pep will have a really clear philosophy of football and have the opportunity to show it.

“He has grown with a particular system of football, more or less the ideas of Johan Cruyff, so for a football player at City it will be fantastic. He can have success in Manchester. He can adapt because he is intelligent.”
