Super League of Malawi (Sulom) on Thursday this month opened bids for Super League exclusive broadcasting rights whereby only three media houses showed interest.
Times Group, Beta Tevesion and Matindi Television submitted their bidding documents to Sulom for period of three seasons.
Matindi bid is at price of k37.5 million, Beta TV bid price is k266 million while Times TV bid price is at k149.3 million.
Sulom treasure Tiya Somba Banda said it is good to note that the three media houses are serious with commercialization of Malawi football.
“We have noted that some have even put bid up to k266 million which is something that has never happened in the history of Malawi football. I believe we are going in right direction,” said Banda.
Sulom invited the bids on April 7 asking interested media organizations for exclusive broadcasting rights for 240 super league games per season for a period of three years which closed on April 21.
Sulom president Innocent Botoman said this is one way of bringing football matches in people’s homes while broadening Sulom’s revenue collection.
Zodiac and Malawi Broadcasting cooperation TV came late so did not submit their bidding documents.
