Golf Union of Malawi has realised and eight-man squad for this year’s Zone VI golf tournament which will be held in Swaziland next week.
The players are Paul Chidale (handicap 0) Adam Sailesi (handcap 1), George Chisambo (4), Kondwani Mphulla (4), Dan Phiri (5), Simon Moses (6), Bob Dambo (7) and Witman Brown (9).
The team is expected to leave for Swaziland on Monday, April 11.
There were a series of tournaments in which all the eligible national team players were assessed their performance and the last one was the Golf Union matchplays held at Blantyre Sports Club last week which was won by Adam Sailesi in the Championship Division. His runner-up was Paul Chidale.
According to coach Chris Kachiguma, all the other players performed so well to win a place in the national squad.
He said Golf Union is building a team for the future and the country should not expect a lot from this squad that will be playing together for a big tournament like this.
Malawi has never won the tournament and last year they came 8th out of nine teams in South Africa.
The closest they came to the title was some seven years ago when the team finished third. Two years ago, they finished fourth in Namibia.
