The spokesperson of the Ministry of sports and culture, Christopher Mbukwa has disclosed that in the 2016/17 draft national budget, Treasury has allocated k841 million to complete Bingu International Stadium.
Last week, the Vice President, Saulos Chilima paid a visit to stadium and asked for it finalization. However, Minister of Sports and Culture Grace Obama Chiumia said the construction has been stuck because the amount of MK500 million was needed for its completion. Today, this has been granted as K841 is on its way to cater for things which are needed to be finalised.
Therefore, k341 million is the extra amount which will cater for any other required facilities for stadium to operate.
“The initial budget was for sewer and electrification while the additional funds will help us to meet the costs of some work which was not included. For instance, we want to do landscaping and construct a fence around. All these projects will be done using the extra funds,” said Mbukwa.
Football Association of Malawi general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda welcomed the development with praises and he cannot wait to see it operating.
