The Athletes Association of Malawi (AAM) aims at finding 32 athletes through its organized competitions at Kamuzu Institute for sports in Lilongwe this Saturday to represent the country at international competitions in Zambia and South Africa this month.
The AAM wants to identify 20 best junior athletes to go to South Africa for the Southern Africa Junior Championship between June 22 and 26 while 12 senior athletes will travel to Zambia for the African senior Athletics Championship between June 17 and 18.
AAM general secretary Frank Chitembeya has concurred with the development that they need to identify many athletes which will likely to hatch their desire to participate at Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
“It is our hope that from a team 32 athletes, three or four will meet qualification requirements for Olympics because we are being denied a chance of participation in such big competition for a long time.
The AAM experts to have such 32 athletes through this weekend National Track and Field Championship at Kamuzu Institute for sports in Lilongwe.
