Athletics Association of Malawi (AAM) has sent eight athletes and three officials to Mozambique on Wednesday to participate in this year’s African Union (AU) Games in Maputo.
AAM General Secretary, Frank Chitembeya confirmed the development and said that the competitors were in good shape.
Team leader, Isaac Phiri, concurred with Chitembeya and said that the athletes prepared for the event for a year.
“You may wish to know that these athletes have been participating in various competitions and are fully-geared to shine in Mozambique,” he said.
The runners had camp training for a week at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre under coach Dennis Phiri.
Some notable runners are Harry Sichali, Doris Fisher, Rodwell Kamwendo and Nancy Matanda who did well in the Sunbird Ku Chawe Mountain Race in Zomba in few past weeks.
