Mzuzu-based boxer, Felix Mwamaso, emerged a winner over Brian Mwando in an eight-round non-title bout at M1 Centerpoint in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The bout run in balance in first three rounds until Mwamaso started to dominate in fourth round, giving Mwando no space to gasp fresh air but only smell of his own blood.
The counting that seemed to be too far away from Mwando’s ears to hear it, angered him wanted to squeeze the referee’s neck to stop counting.
However, his wife Agnes Mtimaukanena failed to convince him to stand to his feet to fight again but her voice landed on deaf ears until Referee Leonard Metazama declared Mwamaso the winner.
It was Mwando’s first loss in five consecutive bouts, having won four, including his recent victory over Charles Misanjo in the middleweight title bout.
After the bout, Mwamaso was happy with a sweet revenge over Mwando, whose record is now 17 wins in 24 bouts.
“I promised my fans that I would beat him. My preparations were good and I am challenging him for a title bout,” said Mwamaso.
Mwando ’s trainer said the referee made a mistake by declaring Mwamaso the winner, claiming that the fight was supposed to be declared as a no-contest.
“This is not boxing and we really are saddened by what has happened. Mwamaso committed a serious foul and he was supposed to be punished,” he said.
